Keeping Kids Reading
All Summer Long

More than 3215 children and 1278 teens signed up to read and earn
prizes during the first three weeks of our summer reading program and
many have already reached their fifteen hour reading goal. Think how
well these participants will do in school after keeping up their reading
skills this summer!

The success of the library’s summer reading program is made possible thanks to strong support from our community, including:

> the parents, guardians, and day care providers who bring their
charges to the library and encourage them to read all summer!

> our Des Moines Public Library Foundation and its generous donors
who provide funds for the publicity and prizes, fun performers, outreach
to local day cares, and more.

> the local businesses, who provide coupons and passes for free
admission, free games, and free food: Godfather’s Pizza, Fazoli’s,
Auntie Anne’s, Mimi’s Café, Iowa Cubs, Blank Park Zoo, North Forty
Miniature Golf, and Pump It Up.

> our eighty-eight teen volunteers who help us during signups
and programs as well as our adult volunteers who help us throughout
the year.

> and our dedicated staff who work on the summer reading
programs, and so much more, thoughout the entire year to promote
the love of reading.
