Cheryl Strayed kicks off the thirteenth season of the Authors Visiting in Des Moines (AViD) Author Series with her hiking adventures on the Pacific Crest Trail. Karen Thompson Walker asks us to consider a future beyond our control when days grow longer and people must learn to cope. Ayana Mathis, recognized by Oprah’s new Book Club, will present her emotionally-charged stories of African Americans who left the south to make new lives. In May, Mike Perry will share his humor and appreciation of life in the rural Midwest. June is the season for brides and best-selling author Mary Jane Clark will visit Des Moines to share her newest wedding cake mystery. Then, in November, the legendary Amy Tan will provide a grand finale with a free AViD program about her newest book during this year’s Wonder of Words Festival!
Over the years, AViD has welcomed more than eighty nationally-recognized, best-selling authors to Des Moines. Its on-going success can be attributed to the strong support it receives from generous donors, collaborative publishers and book-sellers, and audience members like you!
